When it All Started
Pettigrew's equestrian journey began at the Calgary Polo Club, where his dedication to the sport earned him the "Rookie of the Year" award in 2007. This was just the beginning of his competitive journey. In 2010, he clinched the 1.20m Emerging Rider Series championship on Rosita Fly, a victory that holds a special place in his heart. The following year, he secured a third-place finish at the ATCO Double Slalom and served as a traveling alternate for the North American Young Riders Championships on Funny 196.
In-Depth Training Experience
Pettigrew's training has been profoundly shaped by several eminent coaches. Under the tutelage of Dayton Gorsline, Kyle King, and Brian Morton, he honed his technical skills and competitive edge. Lee Tubman, his dressage/flat coach, heavily influenced his approach to flatting and working his horses, instilling techniques that bring horses into peak physical shape. Mark Laskin, notably the Chef d'Equipe for the Canadian team and a team gold medalist at the alternate Olympics in the 80s, offered strategic insights that significantly shaped Pettigrew’s training philosophy and competitive approach.
North America’s Best Achievements
Pettigrew has competed and succeeded at some of the most esteemed venues across North America, including the Desert International Horse Park, Thunderbird Show Park, Spruce Meadows, and the Brandon Royal Winter Fair. These experiences have not only shaped him as a competitor but also as a coach and mentor.
